Check a business name before you fall for it.

Type a name or a web address. In seconds you’ll see which web addresses are open, how strong the name is, whether a live trademark already uses it (when the trademark check is available) — and exactly what to do next.

What this free check tells you

Web addresses

We ask each registry directly whether the .com, .net, .org and popular endings like .shop, .studio and .online are registered right now — plus an ending made for your kind of business when one exists. If the .com is taken, we show when it was registered, when it renews, whether it sits with a domain marketplace, and which close .com variations are open.

Trademarks

A screen of live marks in the U.S., EU, UK, Canadian, Australian and international registers. Clear means no live mark uses the name; caution means one does, often in another line of business; stop means a live mark in your kind of business, or a well-known brand. It is a first look, not legal clearance.

Name strength

Five quick tests good namers use: is it short, easy to spell after hearing it, easy to say, distinctive rather than generic, and is the .com open. Generic names are hard to protect and hard to find in search.

Questions people ask

Is the name check really free?

Yes. No account and no email. Web-address checks are free up to 150 a day per connection, and the trademark screen up to 40 a day — the same live checks that ship with every paid SparkMyName™ order.

Which web addresses do you check?

The .com, .net and .org, plus .shop, .store, .studio, .online and an ending that fits your kind of business when a registry offers one (for example .cafe, .fitness or .law). We ask each registry live at the moment you check. Availability can change minute to minute, and some open names are sold at premium prices — register the one you want to lock it.

Can I type a web address instead of a name?

Yes — type something like harborlight.com or paste a full link. We check that exact address first, then the other endings and close .com variations.

Is a “clear” trademark result legal clearance?

No. It is a preliminary screen of live marks in U.S. and international registers. Similar-sounding marks, logos and state or common-law rights are not covered. Talk to a trademark attorney before you commit.

The .com is taken. What now?

You have three good options: pick one of the open .com variations we suggest, use another ending that fits your business, or choose a name whose .com is open. If the .com is listed with a domain marketplace, the owner may sell it — prices vary widely.

Do you check social media handles?

We give you one-tap links to your handle on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, X and LinkedIn so you can see in seconds whether it’s taken. The platforms don’t let outside tools check this reliably.
