What published prices look like
- Freelance designers: ManyPixels puts most small-business logos at $300 to $2,000. It lists entry-level designers at $300–$500, mid-level at $500–$1,500 and experienced designers at $1,500 and up.
- Hourly: Upwork says the median hourly rate for logo designers is $25. It says top logo designers charge from $25 to $75 an hour, with most at $35–$50.
- Design contests: 99designs logo contests are US$249 (Bronze), US$399 (Silver), US$799 (Gold) and US$1,050 (Platinum).
- Branding agencies: ManyPixels puts them at $3,000 to $10,000 or more, for research, positioning and a full identity system.
What a human designer does better
- Custom work. A person draws something new for your business, not a set of AI options.
- Rounds of changes. You can say “closer, but warmer” and get a new version.
- Strategy. A good designer asks about your customers, your rivals and your plans, then designs for that.
- Copyright. Original human work can be covered by copyright when your contract assigns it to you. The U.S. Copyright Office says purely AI-made material is not.
- A relationship. The same person can design your menu, sign and website later, in the same style.
Where SparkMyName™ is different
- Price. One payment for 6 brands and the full kit for the one you pick.
- Speed. Most brands are ready in under 10 minutes.
- It starts with the name. Each brand comes with a name, the reason it fits, a live domain check and a first trademark look.
- Choice. You compare 6 whole brands side by side.
- Launch pieces included: every logo file, a brand book, a business card with a QR code, a 15-second video and 30 credits for new designs.
A fair way to decide
- Hire a designer if your brand is your product (fashion, beauty, a restaurant concept), if you need a one-of-a-kind mark you plan to protect, or if you have the budget and the weeks.
- Use Spark if you need a name and a good-looking brand now, on a small budget, to launch and test your idea.
- Or do both: launch with Spark, then hire a designer to refine the brand once the business is growing. Your Spark brand book gives them a clear start.

Spark’s limits, plainly
- Names, logos, photos and designs are made with AI, and labeled as AI-made.
- The trademark screen is a first look, not legal clearance. Spark does not file trademarks.
- Spark checks domains live but does not sell them. You buy yours from any domain company.
- You pay before you see your 6 brands. There is a 7-day refund policy.
- Spark launched in 2026, so it has a short track record.
Questions people ask
How much does it cost to hire a logo designer?
Published ranges vary. A September 2026 guide from ManyPixels puts freelance logo design at $300 to $2,000 for most small businesses, and branding agencies at $3,000 to $10,000 or more. Upwork lists a median of $25 an hour for logo designers on its site. 99designs logo contests run from US$249 to US$1,050.
Is a human designer better than SparkMyName?
For custom work, yes, a good designer gives you things Spark does not: a person who studies your business, original ideas, rounds of changes and advice. Spark is faster and costs less, and gives you 6 AI-made brands with names and checks. Which is better depends on your budget, your time and how central the brand is to your business.
Who owns an AI-made logo?
The names, logos and brand materials in your Spark kit are yours to use to launch and run your business. Copyright is a separate question: the U.S. Copyright Office said in January 2025 that copyright does not cover purely AI-made material. A designer's original work, with a written copyright assignment, can be protected by copyright. Ask an attorney if this matters for you.
Can I use Spark first and hire a designer later?
Yes. Many owners start with an affordable brand to launch and test, then hire a designer to refine it once the business is growing. Your Spark files and brand book give a designer a clear starting point.
